Aristopolos to be saved for Alfa Bowl

Those hoping to see exciting two-year-old Aristopolos in action on Good Friday will have to wait, after he was allotted 66kg. Trainer John Blacker has instead opted to target the $45,000 Alfa Bowl (1200m) at Mowbray on April 17, the final night meeting of the season.

Blacker gave the colt a trial hit-out on Tuesday, where he impressed with an effortless 3¼-length victory, clocking 48.32 seconds over 800 metres. Regular rider Erica Byrne Burke allowed Aristopolos to stride to the lead comfortably, before the colt accelerated on straightening to put the trial beyond doubt, easing down to the line under a hold.

Meanwhile, Blacker has also sent his St Leger winner Vino Novello to Melbourne, where the gelding will contest a 2400-metre event at Caulfield on Saturday. Having travelled overnight, he has settled in well at Lindsay Park.
