Crank gives Wooded his first winner down under.

MyRacehorse unveiled another talented two‑year‑old at Terang yesterday, with the Wooded gelding Crank producing a strong debut victory on a Heavy 10 surface.

Settling comfortably in the run, Crank travelled like the winner a long way from home. When jockey Jamie Mott angled him into the better ground down the centre of the track, the gelding quickened stylishly and put the race away in a few strides, eased down late to score by 1.5 lengths.

After the race, Mott was full of praise for the youngster.

“We weren’t sure how he’d handle the heavy, but he got through it with ease. He’s a nice horse. I’ve ridden him on top of the ground in his trials and he goes good — he should win better races.

The win also marked an important milestone for first‑season sire Wooded, who shuttles to Swettenham Stud. Crank becomes Wooded’s first Australian winner, adding to the early momentum already generated in Europe, where he has sired French Group 1 winner Woodhauna from his first northern hemisphere crop.

Crank was bred by Adam Sangster and is the first foal of Energy Within, a metro‑winning Toronado (IRE) mare. She is a half‑sister to stakes‑placed performers Kerauno and Kinetic Design, and her pedigree traces back to elite company — she is a granddaughter of Group 1 winner Kapchat.
