Tasmanian trainer Narelle Webberley has only two horses in work, but she made her presence felt at Mowbray today when Farmer’s Son scored on debut — a brilliant result for a youngster she secured for just $8,000 at the 2025 Magic Millions Sale.
The two‑year‑old gelding was bred at Alva Stud, Hagley, and is by Gold Standard out of the Choisir mare Che’s Explosive, making him a half‑brother to Tosen Fame.
Farmer’s Son had two educational trials in Hobart leading into today’s run. “After his second trial he jarred up, so I gave him a couple of weeks off and brought him back and found this race for him,” Webberley told Tasracing. The patient approach paid off, with the youngster showing professionalism beyond his age at his first raceday appearance.
With a tiny team and a sharp eye for value, Webberley continues to punch above her weight in the Tasmanian training ranks — and today’s debut win suggests Farmer’s Son may be another smart pick from the bargain aisle.
