Tasmanian mare Geegees Mistruth (Wordsmith) delivered a career‑defining performance in the G1 Robert Sangster Stakes, lunging right on the line to secure a thrilling Group 1 victory for trainer Mark Walker and jockey Jordan Childs. The win adds to her already impressive résumé, which includes success at Group 3 level and two Listed victories.
Bred by Paul and Elizabeth Geard, Geegees Mistruth is the headline act from Miss Mana, a Jetball mare famously purchased for just $250 at the 2013 Inglis Great Southern Bloodstock Sale. Miss Mana has since become one of Tasmania’s most influential broodmares: all four of her foals to race are winners, including current 3YO Geegees Missile, a stakes‑placed four‑time winner. Her achievements were formally recognised when she was named 2025 Tasmanian Broodmare of the Year.
Miss Mana has been covered by Wordsmith every season since, producing a yearling gelding and a filly foaled last spring. She was also one of only three mares the stallion covered last season.
Geegees Mistruth’s victory also marks a major milestone for her sire. Earlier this year, Wordsmith was inducted into the Tasmanian Racing Hall of Fame — a fitting honour for a stallion who has dominated the local breeding landscape for more than a decade, producing 619 winners and over $15 million in prize money. Mistruth now becomes his first Group 1 winner, rising to the top of his 22 stakes performers and cementing her place in Tasmanian racing history.
