Tasmania’s racing and breeding landscape enjoyed a lively week on multiple fronts, with unbeaten 2‑year‑old Aristopolos heading to the paddock to prepare for a lucrative 3‑year‑old campaign, Broadmarsh stallion Squamosa receiving a timely boost through a smart Warrnambool debut winner, and Grenville Stud making a splash at the Inglis Weanling Sale.

Aristopolos to Spell Ahead of 3YO Targets
Unbeaten juvenile Aristopolos will head to the paddock rather than contest the final two feature races of the Tasmanian season — the Alexandra Plate (1200m) and the Sires Produce (1400m).
The son of St Mark’s Basilica signs off with $358,330 in earnings and Listed victories in both the Elwick Stakes and the Gold Sovereign, an impressive return for a colt purchased for $60,000 at the 2025 Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale. Despite his perfect record, he has rarely been fully extended in any of his outings.
Trainer John Blacker had initially earmarked the remaining features for the colt but has opted for a freshen-up, confident that a proper break will set Aristopolos up for a strong 3-year-old campaign.
His first major assignment next season is expected to be the $125,000 3YO Cup (1200m), likely to be run in November.
Squamosa Boosted by Warrnambool Carnival
The Warrnambool carnival delivered a timely lift for Brendon McShane’s underrated stallion Squamosa, who stands at Broadmarsh Stud, with 2-year-old filly Centenary Florin scoring on debut.
Grenville Stud Active at Inglis Weanling Sale

Grenville Stud’s Graeme and Bart McCulloch were among the more active buyers at the Inglis Weanling Sale, securing:
- $400,000 – Colt by Frankel out of Irish mare Awhile
- $80,000 – Colt by Hawaii Five Oh out of the Foxwedge mare Foxiest
Attention now turns to the Chairman’s Sale, which begins today and features some of Australia’s most sought-after broodmares.
