Tasmania’s leading trainer, John Blacker, has mapped out the paths for several of his stable stars heading into the late‑spring and summer carnivals.
Blacker confirmed that unbeaten juvenile Aristopolos (St Mark Basilica) will not be given a full three-month break. “He won’t have a complete spell — he’ll just potter around at home, do some light work on our private track and spend time on the walker,” Blacker said. “He’ll return here at the beginning of July for a month’s break before full training starts in early August.” Aristopolos will be aimed at all major 3‑year‑old features next season.
Promising stayer Vino Novello (Vino Rosso), runner‑up to The Western Front at Caulfield earlier this month after winning the Tasmanian St Leger, will also return to work in early August. He will contest all of Tasmania’s staying features, with his long‑term target being the Adelaide Cup in March.
Vino Novello has won 5 races and 3 placings of his 11 starts
Talented gelding Zulu Angel (Zululand) who won at Caulfield before heading to the Terang Cup, failed to handle the Heavy 10 conditions and “just got lost in it,” according to Blacker. She will have three to four weeks off before a short Victorian campaign, leading into Tasmania’s feature middle‑distance races.
