Tasmania’s Grenville Stud made a strong statement at the National Weanling Sale on the Gold Coast, securing three exciting youngsters in a strategic buying spree focused on quality and future opportunity.
Leading the purchases was Lot 326, a striking Zoustar colt, secured for $500,000. The strong, athletic youngster is the first foal from the unraced I Am Invincible mare Grandstraand, herself a daughter of Group 1 Oakleigh Plate winner Mrs Onassis.
The colt boasts an elite pedigree, with the family featuring a host of top-class performers including Group winners Passive Aggressive (Fastnet Rock), Missrock (Fastnet Rock), and Aussies Love Sport (Redoute’s Choice).
Grenville Stud’s Bart McCulloch was full of praise for the colt, describing him as a standout selection.
“I just think he’s a lovely weanling now, and I think he’s going to be a lovely yearling as we go forward. It’s hard to find horses that look like that—you try to breed a horse like that, and it’s hard.”
“He’s by a champion stallion in Zoustar, out of a very young mare who is out of a Group 1 winner, so for us, he ticked all the boxes,” McCulloch told TTR’s Dane McLeod.
Grenville’s buying didn’t stop there, with two more high-quality colts also set to make the journey back to Tasmania. The stud secured another Zoustar colt, this time out of Ponca, a half-sister to Group 1 winner Foxwedge, for $200,000.
Rounding out the trio was a Home Affairs colt from Russian Camilla, a two-time winner in Great Britain and a half-sister to South Australian Derby winner Russian Camelot, purchased for $110,000.
Importantly, all three acquisitions offer not only exciting racetrack potential but strong residual and resale value, reinforcing Grenville Stud’s commitment to investing in elite bloodstock and building for the future.
