Armidale Stud will present a select draft of four weanling colts at next week’s Inglis Great Southern Weanling Sale, with the offering highlighted by a colt closely related to one of Australia’s most exciting young horses.
Leading the draft is a half-brother to the unbeaten two-year-old Aristoplos, by King’s Gambit a Group 2 winner at 3, this youngster is expected to attract significant attention from buyers when he enters the ring.
Armidale Stud’s David Whishaw is particularly enthusiastic about the colt.
“He’s a strong, robust colt with great shoulders and powerful hindquarters. He’s a dead ringer for his brother,” Whishaw said.
Another standout in the draft is a colt by exciting first-season sire Homes Affair from the Lonhro mare Myhro. The mare has already produced three winners, while the colt’s granddam is the Group-winning mare Tickle Me.
“We’re very excited about this colt,” Whishaw said.
“We’ve all seen what Homes Affair is doing with his first runners and this colt is a very well-put-together individual.“
The Armidale draft also features a Hellbent colt from a family closely related to Group 1 winner Under The Louvre.
“He’s a lot like his sire — a rangy colt who will continue to develop into a very nice type,” Whishaw said.
“He’s the sort of horse that pinhookers will love.”
Completing the draft is an impressive colt by proven Group 1 sire Toronado from the talented former juvenile Gee Gees Darl, a stakes-performed mare in the Elwick Stakes. The colt is her first foal.
“Gee, this boy is an outstanding type,” Whishaw said.
“He’s a big, strong colt by a very good stallion and his dam showed plenty of ability on the track.“
The Armidale Stud draft will travel to Melbourne on Saturday ahead of the sale, with prospective buyers welcome to inspect the youngsters early next week
