Wesley Vale trainer Glenn Stevenson and Ensign Lodge’s Barry Campbell are both on the verge of reaching the coveted 50-win mark for the season.
Stevenson has enjoyed a stellar campaign, highlighted by feature race victories in both the Devonport and Launceston Cups with stable star Asva. The Launceston Cup triumph secured Asva a berth in October’s Group 3 Geelong Cup, with the winner earning ballot-free entry into the Melbourne Cup. Stephenson has indicated the prestigious spring feature is firmly on the radar.
Currently sitting on 48 winners for the season, Stevenson has a strong chance to edge closer to the milestone when promising four-year-old Blameitontheboogie won at Devonport on Sunday.
Campbell has also put together an outstanding season, taking his tally to 46 winners after preparing a winning double at Devonport on Sunday.
Three-year-old filly Taroona continued her love affair with the Tapeta circuit, maintaining her unbeaten record at the track, while Hartman completed the double with his fourth victory on the Devonport synthetic surface.
Hartman joins Night Invader, Mazzini, outstanding filly Sanniya and Beneficiary as five-time winners for the stable this season, while top-class galloper Durazzo has added three victories to Campbell’s impressive tally. The consistent performances of his team have the veteran trainer on track for one of his best seasons in racing.
While Stevenson and Campbell chase their respective 50th winners, leading trainer John Blacker, with 63 victories, appears well placed to claim back-to-back Tasmanian training premierships.
