The time-honoured Alexandra Plate produced an exciting result with royally bred filly Buzzoffski, a bargain $22,000 purchase from the 2025 Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale, scoring an impressive victory for Spreyton trainer Leanne Gaffney.
The daughter of Rosemont Stud’s Hanseatic is out of the classy Tough Speed mare Buzzing Along, who was runner-up in the Vamos Stakes before proving herself equally successful in the breeding barn. Buzzing Along is also the dam of Deroche, a winner of the Vamos Stakes, and has been an outstanding producer for Armidale Stud, leaving nine living foals, eight of which are winners.
Ridden confidently by apprentice Bree Temple, Buzzoffski showed plenty of speed from the barriers, leading throughout to defeat her stablemate Valley Star by a convincing margin.
“She began well and just got into a nice rhythm, and her breathing was spot on,” Temple told Tasracing
Valley Star, a gelded son of Widden Valley, also emerged from the 2025 Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale, where Gaffney secured her for the bargain price of just $7,000, highlighting the exceptional value available at the sale.
The favourite Momentslikethese finished third after making her race debut and looks certain to improve with the benefit of the run.
Attention now turns to the final two-year-old race of the Tasmanian season, the Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m), to be run in a fortnight.
In form apprentice Kirra-Lee Lane rode a treble at the Hobart meeting.
