An eye‑catching debut from three‑year‑old John Of Jane at Elwick on Sunday delivered trainer Sigrid “Siggy” Carr her first winner since stepping into full‑time training.
The gelding had shown ability at the trials and began smartly on debut, taking control early and never relinquishing the lead. Under jockey Troy Baker, John Of Jane powered away to score by five and a half lengths.
The stable has long rated the youngster highly.
“He is as good as we think he is — we have a very big opinion of him,” said Baker after the race.
Carr credited owners John and Elizabeth Burke, praising their patience with the nearly four‑year‑old gelding who was making his first race start.
John Burke bred the horse himself — a son of Armidale Stud’s Needs Further out of Lady Jane, a five‑time winner who also produced Tasmanian Guineas winner Mister John. John Of Jane’s granddam, Kats Clause, won the Group 3 Mannerism Stakes and likewise produced Mister John, adding further depth to the family’s proven quality.
The Burkes have been long‑time supporters of the Royston Carr stable and now continue that relationship with his daughter Siggy, who is forging her own path with this impressive new talent.
