Liam Beamish Continues Remarkable Start
The remarkable start to young trainer Liam Beamish’s career continued at Spreyton on Sunday when he prepared another winner with City Wok.
Beamish, who only saddled up his first runner on June 21 this year, has made an immediate impact, training five winners from just 10 starters. The Wesley Vale horseman is achieving those impressive figures with only three horses currently in work.
City Wok’s victory came after some pre-race drama, with the gelding required to undergo a veterinary examination after becoming tangled in the starting stalls.
He was cleared to take his place and, with in-form Irish jockey Luke Dempsey aboard, went on to score. Dempsey completed a winning double at the meeting, while riding honours belonged to Craig “Froggy” Newitt, who booted home a treble.
Sharkie and Boss Special Guests at Devonport Opener
The Devonport Racing Club has announced long-time Tasmanian racing supporter Kevin Sharkie will join champion jockey Glen Boss as a special guest at the club’s season opener on Saturday, October 10.
Sharkie will share the story of how he first became involved in racing, his growing affection for the Tasmanian industry and how that relationship developed into decades of sponsorship and support for racing in the state.
With Sharkie and Boss both appearing, the season opener promises to provide plenty of fascinating racing stories and memories.
Campbell Delighted With Durazzo Trial
Trainer Barry Campbell was delighted with the first-up trial performance of stable star Durazzo at Longford on Tuesday.
Campbell was particularly pleased with how the talented galloper returned from his break and believes he may have come back even better this preparation.
“I think he’s going as well as he’s ever gone, though, and might be a little bit better than last year,” Campbell told Tasracing.
Durazzo has not raced since finishing third behind Victorian visitor Steparty in the Hellova Street Stakes, and his encouraging trial suggests he is on track for another strong campaign.
