JORDAN ON THE MIC

Leading Tasmanian jockey Codi Jordan will swap the saddle for the microphone on Friday night, joining Colin McNiff as part of the coverage team for the Launceston meeting.

Fresh from a mainland holiday, Jordan will provide expert insights throughout the program and conduct post-race interviews for both Tasracing Live and Sky Thoroughbred Central viewers.

JOHNSTONE CHASING GROUP 1 SUCCESS

Former Tasmanian apprentice Jabez Johnstone is on the verge of another career milestone as he prepares to ride Kings Valley in Saturday’s Caulfield Cup.

Now a member of Ciaron Maher’s powerful stable, Johnstone will partner one of the trainer’s leading hopes in a race where Maher is expected to field a strong team of runners.

After progressing through the Tasmanian riding ranks before relocating to Victoria late last season, Johnstone has already claimed two Group 3 victories and continues to impress on the national stage.

In another remarkable achievement, he has also secured a Melbourne Cup ride, less than two years after making his race-riding debut in Hobart on Melbourne Cup Day in 2024.

TRIALS SET TO FEATURE CARNIVAL CONTENDERS

With the Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival fast approaching, attention is turning to the upcoming trial sessions, where a number of the state’s leading gallopers are expected to step out.

Several horses targeting feature summer races are likely to be among the acceptors for Tuesday’s trials at Longford, providing their trainers with an important opportunity to assess their progress.

Longford will again host trials on October 27, before another session is scheduled for November 4, with racing fans eagerly awaiting the return of some familiar stars ahead of the carnival.
