Young trainer Liam Beamish’s extraordinary start to his training career continued at Mowbray on Friday night when Henley Extreme added another success to his growing tally.
Having saddled up his first runner as recently as June 21 this year, Beamish has made a stunning impact, training seven winners from just 13 starters.
Speaking after the victory, Beamish said he had always believed the mare would excel over a longer distance.
“She just keeps getting better and better. I was always excited to get her over a trip,” he told Tasracing’s Colin McNiff.
Henley Extreme has enjoyed a remarkable turnaround in fortunes. Originally purchased for $200,000 at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale and initially prepared by trainers Richard and Will Freeman, she was later bought online for just $8,500.
The mare has now won five races from 20 starts, with three of those victories coming since joining the Beamish stable.
Henley Extreme’s win also completed a treble for jockey Kelvin Sanderson, who earlier partnered Mastretta to victory for trainer Monica Ryan and Sh’bourne Hiflyer for Stuart Gandy.
In another notable family connection, Beamish’s brother Dylan Clark also enjoyed success at the meeting, training Trotsky to victory earlier in the evening.
