A winning treble at Mowbray on Friday night has propelled Glenn Stevenson to the top of the Tasmanian trainers’ premiership with 14 wins for the season.
Stevenson enjoyed a highly successful evening, opening his account with odds-on favourite Sounds Of Peace before producing an impressive debut winner in Alpinefurther and completing the treble with the consistent Go Jeanie.
The performance highlighted the strength of Stevenson’s stable, with his winners ranging from a promising three-year-old to an established mare with feature-race ambitions.
Alpinefurther Shows Guineas Potential
One of the highlights of the evening was the debut victory of three-year-old gelding Alpinefurther in race three.
Stevenson has a high opinion of the youngster and believes he could develop into a genuine Guineas contender.
“We could have got to the races last prep, but we gave him more time. We think he might very well be a Guineas horse,” Stevenson told Tasracing following the win.
The patient approach appears to have paid dividends, with Alpinefurther making an immediate impression at his first race start.
Cup Ambitions for Go Jeanie
Go Jeanie completed Stevenson’s treble, with the daughter of Frosted recording her sixth career victory from 26 starts.
The mare’s consistent performances have encouraged Stevenson to consider stepping her up in distance, with the Sheffield Cup in December among her immediate targets.
If all goes to plan, Stevenson hopes to progress towards the Devonport Cup in January.
Stevenson will have an opportunity to build on his premiership-leading tally when racing returns to Elwick on Melbourne Cup Day, Tuesday, November 3.
The stable has two runners engaged, with Who’s In Dev lining up for his fourth start this preparation, while Blameitontheboogie resumes from a spell in the $50,000 Goodwood Handicap (1100m).
With 14 winners already on the board, Stevenson has made an impressive start to the season and will be looking to maintain his position at the head of the Tasmanian trainers’ premiership.
